Design matters

Material Balance Research Group works at the interplay between material culture and architectural technology, creating innovative scenarios for a resonant balance between humans, nature and built environment.

Our milestones

Key achievements through the years

2018 — Foundation @ABC department Polimi

This department was created to bridge the gap between design, architecture, and the environment, striving for a seamless balance that prioritizes both innovation and sustainability.

2019 — New lab building completed

The lab has been designed and completed to support collaborative workflows, enabling a multidisciplinary team to work side by side in a space where design and production converge.

2021 — First international exhibitions

MATRES was the project we presented for the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, exploring resilient, sustainable materials inspired by nature. It highlights how materials can adapt to environmental challenges, offering a new approach to eco-conscious architecture.

2022 — Innovative tools and machines acquired

With the addition of cutting-edge equipment, the lab now strengthens its focus on innovation, optimizing the link between design and resource manufacturing.

Where design and interdisciplinary research converge

MABA is part of Politecnico di Milano and operates within a dynamic, multidisciplinary framework. The lab collaborates closely with PS VL, focusing on acoustics and vibroacoustics, and with ABCLab, which integrates advanced research in construction and building technologies. This collaborative environment allows MABA to bridge design, technology, and research, fostering cutting-edge solutions across various fields.
